Description
Brake cooling ducts are a common practice in motorsport. Severe braking conditions create a tremendous amount of heat at the brake pad, rotors, calipers, and wheel bearing hubs. Under normal driving conditions this heat dissipates during the non braking cool down period.
On the track or hard road use the braking is much more severe and the cool down times are much shorter. As the braking temperature increases, brake component service life is decreased dramatically. A standard set of brake pads and rotors can wear out completely during one weekend of track driving. This is due to the material failure of both the pads and rotors at extreme temperatures. Forcing air directly at the core of the brake rotor, which then passes through the rotor vents, will increase the life of the brake components. The cooling ducts direct the air to the center of the bearing hub and brake rotor. The air is then expelled through the ventilation slots in the center of the rotors.
These backing plates mount behind the brake discs and are connescted via ducting to air ducts mounted at the front of the car ( ducts not included in this item, please see other listing for complete kit) , thereby "force feeding" air to the center of the discs to vastly improve heat dissipation and thus help prevent brake fade.
